Afterschool Baseball FundamentalsSports & FitnessJoin Coach Isaac Hess for a high-energy, four-week Afterschool Baseball Fundamentals program built for serious young players — with dedicated beginners who know the basic rules, have an eagerness to learn, and can safely play catch with a real baseball also welcome. Each 105-minute class combines focused instruction in baserunning, infield, outfield, and pitching with high-paced Hustle Ball games to sharpen instincts, speed, and decision-making. Limited to 18 players per session, with one or two-classes-per-week options available. Driver's EducationDrivers EducationGeorgia law requires mandatory driver education before teens can obtain their Class D license. All 16 and 17-year-olds applying for a Class D driver’s license must complete an approved driver education course that includes 30-hours classroom or virtual instruction and six hours of instruction behind the wheel with training by a qualified instructor. Parents who live in the Pembroke/Ellabell area must transport students to Richmond Hill Community Education Center. Driving times will be scheduled after the first class session. A copy of the student’s learner’s license is required prior to beginning the class (bring to class). State law requires that parents drive 40 hours with their child and six hours should be at night. Driver's Ed is designed to help a student become a better driver. It is recommended that the student have had some experience driving prior to taking this course. Fundamentals of Weight Training Summer ProgramSports & FitnessFundamentals of Weight Training Summer Program This course is a beginner-level program that teaches athletes the fundamentals of safe strength training. Over eight weeks, participants will learn proper form, basic lifting techniques, and how to build simple workouts using free weights, resistance bands, and bodyweight exercises. Each session includes a warm-up, guided instruction, and a weight training workout routine. Students will keep track of progress and document how much stronger they have gotten during this period. *This course is an eight-week course that begins in one fiscal year and ends in the next fiscal year. Due to system limitations and the requirement to keep the revenue from fiscal years separate, the class is being posted as two four-week sessions in two separate catalogues with two separate charges. WaitlistPianoMusicPrivate piano lessons are offered to children and adults. Lessons are offered on a weekly basis for 30 minutes and are available for beginners as well as those who have piano experience. Minimum age requirements for enrolling in piano lessons will be determined by each instructor. Multiple qualified instructors will be teaching piano for the Community Education program. Piano lessons take place in the after school hours. Class times and locations will be assigned individually. Please note that your registration does not confirm your enrollment in the piano class. You will be contacted once assigned to an available class or placed on a waiting list if no class is available. Prices may vary by instructor. In Introduction to College Prep Piano, the student receives a weekly 30-minute piano lesson that is tailored to their individual learning style. Lessons are focused on theory, technique, sight-reading, aural-training, and a variety of musical styles appropriate for beginners to advanced students of any age. Students are responsible for purchasing lesson books as assigned and should have access to a piano for daily practice. *Please note that all students are placed on a waiting list at the time of registration to allow staff to place students in an appropriate day and time. Once all spaces are filled and a true waiting list exists, registrants will be contacted as space becomes available. WaitlistPrivate Violin LessonsMusicThis violin class is perfect for beginners, advanced beginners or those at the intermediate level of play. The instructor for this course is Abbey Terry, an active performer and music instructor. Students will develop an understanding of how to play the violin from scratch, demonstrate the ability to hold the bow, violin and shoulder rest correctly. Students will also learn the terminology, read basic music notation, practice effectively, and demonstrate reading music more fluently. Students are responsible for renting or purchasing instruments, plus scores, lesson books and collections as assigned. SAT PrepEnrichmentRequirements for enrollment: Students must have taken the PSAT or SAT and completed Algebra I; students must have a calculator (TI-84 or TI-84 Plus preferred) , a charged laptop or chrome book, and a College Board student account. If you are bringing a personal laptop, download the BlueBook app (Instructions HERE). You will be able to access BlueBoard with your College Board login credentials, so have your login and password. Two-Day SAT Prep Blast The SAT Prep Blast course concentrates on SAT reading, vocabulary, and writing skills along with math practice. The course includes practice in taking the NEW DIGITAL SAT, as well as strategies for sections and question types. Learn to approach the test analytically and with confidence and practice effective test-taking strategies. Examine the format of test sections, modules, question structure and content, as well as practice the skills and techniques for each type of question. Review useful approaches for eliminating guessing, using actual test questions released by College Board. We will use authentic practice materials within Bluebook as well as other SAT practice resources available through the College Board and Khan Academy. Practice work will help identify individual strengths and weaknesses, so additional practice can be tailored to a student’s specific needs. SAT Prep Blast will allow for a full SAT practice test with scoring and feedback. This class meets on one Monday and one Tuesday for a total of 6 hours of instruction. TaekwondoSports & FitnessTaekwondo is translated into “the way of the hands and feet” and is designed to enhance balance, agility, and flexibility. Courtesy, respect, perseverance, self-control, and positive thinking are the foundations for achieving success in martial arts training. Master Flemmings is a 7th degree black belt, and he has additional martial arts instruction in Karate, Mudukwan, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Krav Maga (Israeli Self Defense) and Hwa Rang Do. Placement in the class will be determined at time of registration. Uniforms must be worn. Uniforms can be obtained through online purchase using the vendor of your choice. A three-piece, white set with a V-neck top, pants, and belt is recommended. Belt testing is available through the instructor.
