AdventureDiscovery AdventureEach day is a new adventure in the Adventure Camp! Campers will travel and enjoy the sights and sounds of Coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Each week includes a theme with field trips and activities based on the weekly theme. Campers will explore lots of creative activities throughout the summer and will enjoy sports, games, history and exploring nature in several scheduled field trips. In addition, there will be outdoor play, movies, and time to spend with old and new friends. Students will be transported by school bus for all field trips. Experienced adult instructors will accompany the students on field trips. Parents are kept informed of all activities and field trip locations with a weekly agenda for the camp. It is imperative that parents familiarize themselves with each week’s activities. Because of time constraints, the bus cannot wait for students who arrive late to camp. Students who arrive late for field trips will return home with parents. The Community Education Office reserves the right to make changes in the weekly agendas based on enrollment, scheduling conflicts, or weather conditions. Afterschool Baseball FundamentalsSports & FitnessJoin Coach Isaac Hess for a high-energy, four-week Afterschool Baseball Fundamentals program built for serious young players — with dedicated beginners who know the basic rules, have an eagerness to learn, and can safely play catch with a real baseball also welcome. Each 105-minute class combines focused instruction in baserunning, infield, outfield, and pitching with high-paced Hustle Ball games to sharpen instincts, speed, and decision-making. Limited to 18 players per session, with one or two-classes-per-week options available. All-Star Athletes CampSummer Specialty CampsAll-Star Athletes is a program that will develop your child’s physical strength, power, speed, agility, endurance, and flexibility. Sessions will provide introduction and practice of dynamic stretching, form running, agility training, and body weight strength conditioning. The week-long camp will each include skills practice and development in a variety of recreational sports including basketball, soccer, baseball/softball, football, lacrosse, volleyball and a variety of other games and activities. Babysitting & First Aid/CPR WorksSummer Specialty CampsThis course teaches students to meet the basic needs of children in a care-taking environment with a focus on safety. The training will help students develop leadership skills, start a babysitting business and learn how to communicate with parents while keeping themselves and others safe. Students will also learn child feeding and diapering techniques. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certification card. This class also incorporates a Pediatric First Aid Course that instructs students on how to deal with first aid issues to include medical emergencies, the use of an Epi-pen injector, injury emergencies, how to handle environmental emergencies, and Stop the Bleed training. Also covered are adult/child and infant CPR procedures as well as how to react to a child or infant who is choking. Only 20 students are accepted for this course, so early registration is encouraged. Basketball Camp at MESSummer Specialty CampsBasketball Camp at MES This camp is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of basketball. Lessons will focus on shooting form, dribbling skills, and passing. The class is taught by Mario Anderson, an experienced basketball coach and former player. Mr. Anderson has coached basketball at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Students will have the opportunity to play five on five against each other. Developing a positive culture that promotes self-confidence, teamwork, and fun will be the foundation. Students will be engaged in various drills and games to help improve their basketball fundamentals. Maximum 24 students for this class. Open to students entering grades 3 - 5. Boater SafetyLearn boater education in a classroom setting from a game warden, AND receive boating safety certification issued by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. All persons born on or after January 1, 1998 that operate any motorized vessel on the waters of the state must have completed an approved boat education course prior to such operation. This course will certify students to operate vessels on state waters as well as teach students important lessons in water safety, navigation and safe operation, required equipment, emergency procedures, and other responsibilities of a boat operator. The class will be offered on a Saturday. Students must attend entire session to be eligible for certification. Students will need a GA DNR Customer ID Number to complete the course. Visit www.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com, or call 1-800-366-2661 to locate your existing Customer ID Number or create a new one. Then register for the course on this site prior to the date of the course. Once students have passed the course, they can print a certificate from this website. For students younger than 16 years old and/or without a driver's license, parents can create an account using the student's Social Security number. Bryan County Summer School Before & After SchoolBryan County Schools’ Community Education division will offer Before and After School care for K-5th grade students attending Summer School Experience June 7 – July 1. Summer School Before and After care is a fee-based program and will be offered at McAllister Elementary and Bryan County Elementary Schools. Summer School Before and After students will work on Summer School homework, classroom activities, and outside play. Snacks will be provided for After School students. Current CDC recommended restrictions will apply to all students and staff during Before and After School hours. Bryan County Summer School Staff Child CareBryan County Schools’ Community Education division will offer a Child Care Program for teachers and staff who have been hired for Summer School Experience June 7 – July 1. The staff child care program is a fee-based program and will be offered at McAllister Elementary and Bryan County Elementary Schools. Child care hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Staff child care students will participate in activities normally offered during the After School Program that include iPad educational access, video programs, games, crafts, indoor play, and outdoor play. Driver's EducationDrivers EducationGeorgia law requires mandatory driver education before teens can obtain their Class D license. All 16 and 17-year-olds applying for a Class D driver’s license must complete an approved driver education course that includes 30-hours classroom or virtual instruction and six hours of instruction behind the wheel with training by a qualified instructor. Parents who live in the Pembroke/Ellabell area must transport students to Richmond Hill Community Education Center. Driving times will be scheduled after the first class session. A copy of the student’s learner’s license is required prior to beginning the class (bring to class). State law requires that parents drive 40 hours with their child and six hours should be at night. Driver's Ed is designed to help a student become a better driver. It is recommended that the student have had some experience driving prior to taking this course.
