Soccer SkillsSports & FitnessSoccer Skills This class will work on developing soccer fundamentals for all ages and skill levels. In this six-week class, students will focus on learning basic foot skills and passing and then shooting and playing as a team in small-sided games. Players will learn the rules of the game and get to experience why it is the most popular sport worldwide. Softball FundamentalsSports & FitnessThis six-week softball class meets one day per week and is open to female students in grades 1–5. The class focuses on teaching the fundamentals of softball including throwing, catching, hitting, fielding, and base running. Sessions are designed to be fun, age-appropriate, and instructional, with an emphasis on skill development, confidence, and sportsmanship. Specialty Art - Creating with Clay!Art & Performing ArtsCreating with Clay! Indulge in the messy fun of pinching, pulling, and pushing clay in a six-week ceramic class. Offered twice a year, this class is perfect for students who want to use clay for the first time or work with the material more! With an "open studio" feel, students will improve their skills with clay while fostering their own creativity in creating one-of-a-kind ceramic works. Students can expect to leave with 2-3 fully fired and glazed ceramic pieces that can last a lifetime! Courtesy, respect, perseverance, self-control, and positive thinking are the foundations for achieving success in martial arts training. Master Flemmings is a 7th degree black belt, and he has additional martial arts instruction in Karate, Mudukwan, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Krav Maga (Israeli Self Defense) and Hwa Rang Do. Placement in the class will be determined at time of registration. Uniforms must be worn. Uniforms can be obtained through online purchase using the vendor of your choice. A three-piece, white set with a V-neck top, pants, and belt is recommended. Belt testing is available through the instructor. TennisSports & FitnessThis is an introduction to tennis class, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. It’s the fast, fun way to get kids into tennis and keep them playing. These are year-long classes. Students will need a 21, 23 or 25-inch racket, available from any sporting goods outlet or discount store. TrackSports & FitnessFall Endurance Add some variety to your list of sport accomplishments through the Fall Endurance program. Let your child experience the excitement of running while realizing their physical and mental potential. This five-part endurance program, designed and led by RHHS’s USATF certified & 17x USA Today Cross-Country Coach of the Year Levi Sybert, brings focus to endurance running and the sport of cross country in a fun and interactive way. Participants will meet at Richmond Hill High School’s Track Complex where they will be paired up with students of similar ability to prepare for a culminating race run on the RHHS Cross Country race on the final day. Our goal is that each child will experience firsthand how to find fun and thrill in an activity they can do anywhere at any time. Open to grades K-5. No transport available for this class. Spring Speed Add some variety to your list of sport accomplishments through the Track & Field Spring Speed program. Let your child experience the thrill of racing their friends while realizing their physical and mental potential. This 5-part speed program, designed and lead by RHHS’s USATF certified & 14x Savannah Morning News’ Coach of the Year Levi Sybert, brings focus to the speed side of the sport of Track & Field in a fun and interactive way. Participants will meet at Richmond Hill High School’s Track Complex where they will be paired up with students of similar ability in order to prepare for their meet with the high school students at the Apex Invite. Our goal is that each child will experience first hand how to find fun and thrill in an activity they can do anywhere at anytime. Open to grades K-5. Volleyball Skills & DrillsSports & FitnessThis class is designed to teach beginner players the fundamentals of volleyball in a fostering, encouraging environment. Over the course of 6 weeks they will learn the basics of passing, setting, hitting, and serving. In addition to skill development, players will learn the importance of communication and teamwork, building confidence both on and off the court. Through drills and skill-building games, participants will develop a strong foundation of volleyball while making new friends and having fun! Reminders: Bring water and proper sports attire (shorts, T-shirt, and comfortable running sneakers with good grip or volleyball shoes). **If you have/plan on buying volleyball shoes, they are STRICTLY meant for indoor court use. Please come in a different pair of shoes (i.e; crocs, slides, flip flops), and once inside, player can change shoes. Please make sure socks are brought or worn. Each weekly one-hour class will build on the previous week’s lesson and introduce different tools and techniques in the creation of a 6x9 watercolor painting. The class will learn the fundamentals of how to paint with watercolors, how to use additional tools in their creation, and how to finish and display watercolor art. See examples of Paul's work below for a few of the animals that will be in the lessons. Wildcat FishingSports & FitnessWildcat Fishing: Get ready to head to the water! This after-school program is designed to turn middle schoolers into confident, self-sufficient anglers. Whether you’ve never touched a rod or you're already a weekend regular, this course will help you master the technical skills needed to catch the local favorites: Largemouth Bass and Bream (Bluegill/Sunfish). Equipment will be provided. Core Skills & Training We focus on the "Big Four" technical skills that take you from a spectator to a participant: Spinning Reel Mastery: Learn the mechanics of the spinning reel. We will focus on the "finger-flip" technique to achieve long-distance casts and pinpoint accuracy—essential for landing lures right in the Bass's strike zone. Small Cast Net Technique: Learn how to catch your own live bait. We’ll practice the "load and throw" method with a small cast net to help you achieve that perfect "pancake" spread. Pro Pole Setup: Stop relying on others to fix your gear! You will learn how to rig a rod from scratch, including threading the line, adjusting the drag, and choosing the right tackle for targeting bream or bass. The Fisherman’s Knot: A fish is only as strong as your knot. Youth Athletic MovementSports & FitnessYouth Athletic Movement is a four-week program designed to help young athletes build a strong foundation in movement, coordination, speed, agility, balance, and overall athleticism. Participants will learn proper movement mechanics, improve body control, and develop confidence through engaging drills, age-appropriate exercises, and fun, game-based activities. Athletes should bring a water bottle and wear comfortable athletic clothing and athletic shoes.
