AdventureDiscovery AdventureEach day is a new adventure in the Adventure Camp! Campers will travel and enjoy the sights and sounds of Coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Each week includes a theme with field trips and activities based on the weekly theme. Campers will explore lots of creative activities throughout the summer and will enjoy sports, games, history and exploring nature in several scheduled field trips. In addition, there will be outdoor play, movies, and time to spend with old and new friends. Students will be transported by school bus for all field trips. Experienced adult instructors will accompany the students on field trips. Parents are kept informed of all activities and field trip locations with a weekly agenda for the camp. It is imperative that parents familiarize themselves with each week’s activities. Because of time constraints, the bus cannot wait for students who arrive late to camp. Students who arrive late for field trips will return home with parents. The Community Education Office reserves the right to make changes in the weekly agendas based on enrollment, scheduling conflicts, or weather conditions. All-Star Athletes CampSummer Specialty CampsAll-Star Athletes is a program that will develop your child’s physical strength, power, speed, agility, endurance, and flexibility. Sessions will provide introduction and practice of dynamic stretching, form running, agility training, and body weight strength conditioning. Babysitting & First Aid/CPR WorksSummer Specialty CampsThis course teaches students to meet the basic needs of children in a care-taking environment with a focus on safety. The training will help students develop leadership skills, start a babysitting business and learn how to communicate with parents while keeping themselves and others safe. Students will also learn child feeding and diapering techniques. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certification card. This class also incorporates a Pediatric First Aid Course that instructs students on how to deal with first aid issues to include medical emergencies, the use of an Epi-pen injector, injury emergencies, how to handle environmental emergencies, and Stop the Bleed training. Also covered are adult/child and infant CPR procedures as well as how to react to a child or infant who is choking. Only 20 students are accepted for this course, so early registration is encouraged. Basketball Camp at MESSummer Specialty CampsBasketball Camp at MES This camp is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of basketball. Lessons will focus on shooting form, dribbling skills, and passing. The class is taught by Mario Anderson, an experienced basketball coach and former player. Mr. Anderson has coached basketball at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Students will have the opportunity to play five on five against each other. Developing a positive culture that promotes self-confidence, teamwork, and fun will be the foundation. Gymnastics Summer CampSummer Specialty CampsSummer Gymnastics Gymnastics camps will be offered for the groups listed below. The camps are open to boys and girls. The camps will emphasize flexibility and conditioning, movement education, and apparatus training including beam, uneven bars, parallel bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and floor. Registration is limited in each age/ability grouping. The instructor is Deborah Hager-Luebbert who has taught gymnastics and tumbling with Community Education for 34 years. She is an accomplished gymnast winning a state title championship and competing at nationals and the SEC-NCAA on a four-year collegiate gymnastics scholarship. She coached as an assistant coach after graduation and then directed Savannah Gymnastics for seven years. She is featured in the book “Legacy of The Blues” for her collegiate competition years. Come join the fun while learning and understanding the concepts of physical and mental training in the sport of gymnastics. Before and after care are available for all classes except Tumbling Tots and for Tumbling the week of July 20. Tumbling Tots: The goal of Tumbling Tots camp is for 2-year-old to 3-year-old students to enjoy being active and to gain an understanding of body-in-motion awareness. Studies show that important reading skills and perceptual motor skills are enhanced if a child’s level of self-confidence and motor skills are raised during the formative preschool years. This half-day gymnastics camp is designed with positive reinforcement for developing skills that will accelerate motor development, agility, coordination, flexibility, strength, a love for physical activity, and high self-esteem. Classes include movement education, tumbling, balance beam, uneven bars, mini-trampoline, and vaulting. The use of other apparatus such as balls, hula hoops, parachute, bright colored squares, blocks, and circles will be used to enhance the awareness of shapes and colors. Before and after care are NOT available for this class. Intermediate/Advanced Gymnastics: Students in this class will be working on the more advanced skills on all the apparatus equipment of floor, uneven bars, beam, vault, parallel bars, and mini-trampoline. Drills and conditioning are a must to develop strength and flexibility. This is an all-day camp that is open to intermediate-level students who can perform the basic back walk-over, front walk-over, and are working on perfecting back handsprings. This camp is also open to those performing skills at the advanced level, such as standing back tucks, round-off back handsprings, back layout, and full twist. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day. Preschool/Beginner Gymnastics: This camp is open to Pre-K-3rd grade. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Early registration is a must. In addition to the basic development of gymnastics skills on the balance beam, uneven bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and tumbling, preschool students will work on cognitive skills such as letters, shapes, colors, the skeletal system, and major muscle groups. Activities are designed to help improve self-confidence, flexibility, balance, and rhythm. Preschool gymnastics students will participate in a study of good nutrition and the importance of a healthy body. They will develop skills enhancing their fine motor skills and gross motor skills. This will be a physically challenging camp that teaches the skills that give young children stronger bodies and sharper minds as well as an understanding of their bodies’ capabilities while emphasizing fundamental gymnastics skills on all apparatus and appropriate-sized mats and equipment. All preschool students must be four years old by May 26, 2025 to attend this camp. Beginner/Intermediate Gymnastics: This is an all-day camp open to new or beginner students with little or no previous gymnastics training. The students will be working on progressing basic skills such as cartwheels, one arm cartwheels, front walkovers, back walkovers, and round-offs. Drills and conditioning will be emphasized to enhance and perfect strength and coordination to enable the students to learn more advanced skills safely. Students will learn basic skills on all apparatus such as the balance beam, parallel bars, uneven bars, vault, floor, and mini-trampoline. Students should bring a lunch and drink every day. Tumbling Camp: This camp specializes in tumbling skills for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Students will be training and conditioning to enhance strength and agility and will be performing drills to reach skill level goals of each individual student. This camp will include floor exercise skills and mini-trampoline. Students must have at least one year of prior gymnastics experience and must have completed the second grade or higher to enroll. Students should bring a lunch and drink each day. Before and after care are NOT available for this class the week of July 20. Gymnastics/Tumbling Camp: This camp specializes in gymnastics and tumbling skills for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Students will be training and conditioning to enhance strength and agility and will be performing drills to reach skill level goals of each individual student. This camp will include floor exercise skills and mini-trampoline. Students must have at least one year of prior gymnastics experience and must have completed the second grade or higher to enroll. Pre-K Kiddie KampDiscovery AdventurePre-K Kiddie Kamp for 4-year-olds and 5-year-olds Kiddie Kamp provides four and five-year-old preschool students a summer filled with adventure, new discoveries, and fun. The hands-on curriculum spans many themes and presents preschool students with age-appropriate responsibilities and challenges. These students have a natural curiosity and desire to learn, and they enjoy being with other students their age. This camp has been designed to provide activities that build on social and learning skills and present opportunities to learn about sharing, respecting others, building friendships, and developing new interests. The hands-on, structured environment of this camp allows the preschool camper to explore activity centers, enjoy indoor and outdoor activities and field trips, and learn new skills. Campers will also have free time to enjoy group or individual activities through learning opportunities to prepare them for pre-kindergarten or kindergarten classes next school year.
