Wildcat FishingSports & FitnessWildcat Fishing: Get ready to head to the water! This after-school program is designed to turn middle schoolers into confident, self-sufficient anglers. Whether you’ve never touched a rod or you're already a weekend regular, this course will help you master the technical skills needed to catch the local favorites: Largemouth Bass and Bream (Bluegill/Sunfish). Equipment will be provided. Core Skills & Training We focus on the "Big Four" technical skills that take you from a spectator to a participant: Spinning Reel Mastery: Learn the mechanics of the spinning reel. We will focus on the "finger-flip" technique to achieve long-distance casts and pinpoint accuracy—essential for landing lures right in the Bass's strike zone. Small Cast Net Technique: Learn how to catch your own live bait. We’ll practice the "load and throw" method with a small cast net to help you achieve that perfect "pancake" spread. Pro Pole Setup: Stop relying on others to fix your gear! You will learn how to rig a rod from scratch, including threading the line, adjusting the drag, and choosing the right tackle for targeting bream or bass. The Fisherman’s Knot: A fish is only as strong as your knot. We will master the Improved Clinch Knot, ensuring your hook stays attached when a big bass decides to run. *Note: RHMS students can stay after school for this course but must be picked up promptly at the end of class.Community Education 2026-2027
